What makes a great group photo?
Scope the problem
Google Photos has features dedicated to increasing the quality of group photos. We wanted to figure out what types of features were prioritized highest by users, as well as collect sentiment on which types of features were enjoyed most by users.
Process
Using our personalized evaluation process, I ran 50 unmoderated diary studies using Dscout. I conducted both quantitative analyses and qualitative coding to identify themes in user feedback. Finally, I presented these findings to stakeholders to inform their decisions on which features to adjust and prioritize.
Impact
These findings have been used to inform our roadmap for which features to develop. I was also able to sit down with engineers and show examples of group photos that are representative of what users actually take. This helped us iterate on the features and ensure they will work well upon launch.
